Theme parties are the best, there’s no denying it. You love theme parties. We love theme parties. Like capital L-O-V-E them. We love planning them, decorating them, throwing them, and even like cleaning up after them. And contrary to popular belief, theme parties don’t have to suddenly be lame once you’re no longer a child. Like an excellent whiskey, a good shindig can get even better with age.
This whole adventure started out of frustration when Ellie was trying to plan her Dinosaur Birthday party. It wasn’t that there weren’t ideas out there, its just these ideas were aimed at a certain demographic – 4-to-6 year old boys. And Ellie is pretty far from a 4-to-6 year old boy. In fact, she wasn’t even planning of having anyone of that description attend her 26th birthday party. All she wanted to do was throw a classy dinosaur bash that adults could enjoy. Spoiler alert: she did.
Satisfied with accomplishing a seemingly impossible feat, she figured this was a one-time ordeal. She was wrong. In the sacred words of the Beastie Boys: “You’ve got to fight for your right to party.” And the fight for theme parties, even harder it seemed. The frustration continued with the next party, and the one after that. There just weren’t any resources for adults out there – except for themed food and drinks, which yes, awesome, but… there were no décor ideas, and definitely no game ideas. And if you’re not going to go all in, what’s the point?!
When Haley threw her Lisa Frank themed birthday party, Ellie knew she had found a kindred soul.
On our separate paths, we started throwing one epic themed bash after another – until it finally clicked that since neither of us is going to stop, we should probably just be doing this together. And our first co-hosted party? Pure magic. We did it! We took back the grown up theme party!
That’s when we realized that we were hoarding all of this profound party-throwing knowledge, and were part of the problem and not the solution. So we sat down over breakfast one day and hatched a plan. This here blog & website, the whole shebang, is that plan coming to fruition. So please explore, read, download & soak up all our advice to make your Fight for the Right to Party easier. Now go on, grown up friends, and have beautiful, epic, fun themed parties. We’ll look for our invitations in the mail.
